WHM’s Internal Medicine Specialists, also known as Internists, are Medical Doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of Adult Diseases.
These diseases may involve a single organ or multiple organs, and can range from common conditions such as diabetes and hypertension to complex and rare conditions.
Internal Medicine Specialists have expertise in managing complex medical conditions and providing comprehensive care to patients. They are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical problems through a combination of physical examinations, laboratory tests, and imaging studies.
Some of the common areas that Internal Medicine specialists may focus on include cardiology (heart diseases), gastroenterology (digestive system diseases), pulmonology (lung diseases), nephrology (kidney diseases), endocrinology (hormonal disorders), and rheumatology (joint and connective tissue disorders).
Internal Medicine specialists also provide preventative care, such as routine health checkups, immunizations, and health screenings. They work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, such as surgeons and specialists, to ensure that patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care.
Internal Medicine Specialists will typically ask patients about their medical history, including past illnesses, surgeries, and chronic conditions.
They will perform a physical examination to assess the patient’s overall health, including vital signs, heart and lung function, and neurological status.
They may order diagnostic tests such as blood tests, imaging studies, or other laboratory tests to help diagnose and monitor medical conditions.
They will review the patient’s current medications and may adjust them as needed.
They will assess the patient’s lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, sleep, and stress levels to identify potential factors contributing to their medical condition.
They will ask about the patient’s family history to identify any genetic predispositions to certain medical conditions.
They will work with the patient to identify their goals and preferences for treatment, and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to their individual needs.
